ALEX MOULTON
Next, the Alex Moulton range: the cycling equivalent of owning a Bentley or Rolls Royce. The Moulton Bicycle is the original full-suspension, separable, small- wheeled, high-performance bicycle, world-renowned for speed, efficiency, durability and

Expertly engineered for over 50 years and handcrafted in England, these bicycles are the world’s most efficient form of transport – designed for universal use, real performance and comfort. These bikes are not hard to spot, whether gleaming in Stainless Steel or resplendent in a custom paint job.

As a radical design, the Moulton bicycle – the first small-wheeled adult bicycle – needed credibility in the market and Alex Moulton realised the importance of this when planning the launch of the bicycle in 1962. Aided by his Marketing Manager David Duffield, himself a record-breaking cyclist, several riders were actively supported by Moulton. Coventry CC pursuit team were unstoppable on the track, their Moultons allowing them to keep in a tight group to reduce aerodynamic drag; road riders benefited from the reduced aerodynamic drag of the small wheels and, with a reputation established, the Moulton became acceptable to the most discerning club cyclists. Following the introduction of the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) rule 1.3.018, Moultons are not permitted in road-racing events – this is why you never see them in events like the Tour de France – but they are still used in time-trials and for ultra-distance events.

How do you know you are staring at one of the high-end, handcrafted Moulton and not the standard Moulton TSR range (that gets you on a Moulton for just under S$4,400)? Other than the refined components, you will notice the “kinked” bottom section of the spaceframe. This is a dead giveaway that you are looking at a top-end Moulton, with the enhanced performance and comfort characteristics. The TSRs are truly awesome to ride, thanks to the late Dr Alex Moulton’s pioneering work on suspension design for small wheels. Moulton has taken everything they learnt in engineering design and conceived the SST. Although no “kinked” spaceframe, Moulton wanted to improve on the TSR series, and have introduced a whole host of engineering innovation.

SST – the engineer’s dream bike
The Moulton SST possesses all the essential Moulton features for performance and comfort – space-frame construction, small wheels and full suspension – all encompassed within the iconic and inimitable Moulton architectural aesthetic. Engineered for a smooth and efficient riding experience, the Moulton space-frame is uniquely separable for ease of transportation and stowage. A step on from the TSR, the SST features a new chainstay ‘X-brace’ frame reinforcement, with an adjustable mudguard mount. Frame weight has been reduced with a round-tapered chainstay, lighter rear fork upright tube, and smaller stirrup block height. Another superbly versatile model. With a full range of optional racks, bags and mudguards, there is a TSR for every use – sportive riding, touring, commuting and leisure. Every SST is hand-built in England by highly skilled craftsmen.

Tyrell bikes update

Tyrell from Japan has always scored on looks and performance.

Minivelos traditionally are not foldable bikes. The first attempt to make a foldable minivelo in production scale was Dahon in 2010 who labeled their folding minvelos as Midtown series. The word “Velo” is french for bicycle, so rather than calling it a Minibike, the Japanese have branded it “mini Velo”, with a good sense of history, culture and chic wording.

Tyrell continued this and pushed through the Tyrell FX, which to date is a favorite for those who want looks, speed, and foldable to fit into car boots. Preorder is now on. Tyrell went on to present the Tyrell FSX for faster 406 equipped wheels and retained the foldability.

Not satisfied with the trifold design with Brompton, Hirose redesigned the 18 inch from ground up and birth the IVE. The IVE has since evolved to IVE Sports, a faster more aggressive 18 inch trifold.

For 2022, the FX does away with the straight handle bar and adopts the dropbar as a standard equipped with Shimano 105 format. But you can opt for straight bars. The Tyrell CSi is back for those who do not need it foldable and want it pure.

Foldables with 26″ wheels

What is there to choose from when looking for foldable bikes with 26 inch wheels?

26 inch wheels are what many of us grew up with when it comes to bicycles.
So can I get them with folding mechanisms? The answer is absolutely YES!

While we understand the familiarity we have with larger wheels and the misconception that we have to pedal harder, today’s technology has enabled riding small wheeled foldables to keep up with larger wheels. In fact sometimes with the right transmission and fitness, small wheeled foldable outrun bigger wheels.

  • Tern Eclipse series
The Eclipse is a full-featured flat-bar road bike with full-size wheels—that just so happens to fold. We loaded it up with the exact elements needed to create a lightning-fast ride with an amazing feel, all while retaining the versatility and convenience of a folding bike. Folding never rode so fast!

SBL – smartest lights in town

Smart Bike Lights Farina and Cliq are bike lights that bring the next level of design and intelligence to the field.

Lights have always been known as a useful yet simple piece of kit for helping us stay safe and seen on the roads. But now, with SBL’s  exciting and rapid advancements in technology, you get better road safety

One of the best things about SBL bike lights is that they know when to flash more often and more brightly to keep you visible whenever you need to be most. The sensor automatically adjusts their brightness, this means that they are using their battery power more efficiently – so they will flash for even longer for both front and rear.

With Smartgrid – you get up to 4 modes for your lights display and if you are riding as a team – why not sync up your lights?

My Bike Shop is pleased to partner with SBL
